Abeer Mahmoud, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. She studied chemoprevention in prostate cancer in her doctoral work, and the physiological and molecular outcomes of lifestyle interventions at the metabolic and vascular levels in postdoctoral research. She has studied blood and tissue DNA methylation profiles among those who are morbidly obese and the impact of these profiles on metabolic and vascular functions. Her goal is to identify clinically relevant epigenetic mechanisms to help mitigate the increased risk of obesity co-morbidities.
