Tackling Community Health & Wellness
The Cancer Center is co-sponsoring the “Tackling Community Health and Wellness” event for Peer Plus Education and Training Advocates on National Cancer Survivors Day, Sunday, June 2.
During the event, Peer Plus Education and Training Advocates will recognize those in the community who are cancer survivors and advocates, and raise awareness of the challenges of survivorship.
There are currently over 18 million cancer survivors here in the U.S. According the the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, “A survivor is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.”
The event will be moderated by our own Dedra Ries, MPH, Director, Office of Community Engagement and Health Equity (CEHE).
Guest speakers include:
- Paul J. Grippo, PhD, Cancer Center member and an Associate Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine

- Durado D. Brooks, MD, MPH, Deputy CMO for the Screening Business Unit of Exact Sciences Corporation
