The Illinois Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (ILCCRT) is a call to action to address immediate challenges and opportunities regarding colorectal cancer in the state of Illinois. It reflects the values, ideas, and actions of a determined group of people from affected communities, advocacy organizations, and health delivery services focused on eliminating cancer. Supporters of the ILCCRT share a common vision of healthy and happy communities made stronger and more resilient through prevention, detection, and timely treatment. Just as the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) offers a platform to engage consumers, providers, and policy makers, the ILCCRT brings together those who represent all aspects and perspectives of the disease in collaboration with leadership and front-line personnel from affected communities. Our purpose is to engage in a dialog that leads to action on the issues; increases screening rates; advances solutions to the disease burden; and establishes a centralized communication hub for the various complex problems related to colorectal cancer in all corners of the state of Illinois.
The ILCCRT seeks to advance the principals and commitments of the NCCRT in an effort to enhance the collective impact through specific cancer reduction actions. By highlighting the intersections between community, public health, and health care delivery, this annual event is a vehicle to grow the broad-based movement that is needed to solve our most urgent colorectal cancer problems.
In developing this event, we strive to honor and acknowledge the progress and achievements of existing colorectal cancer efforts in the state; bring those collective energies together; introduce new voices to the discussion about colorectal cancer; and, finally, set the stage for further discussion, collaboration, and system change in the state of Illinois.
