6th Annual MSTP Student-led Lecture

Each year, in honor of Director Emeritus Larry S. Tobacman, MD, the University of Illinois College of Medicine Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) Student Affairs Council invites a distinguished member of the physician-scientist community to speak on medicine, biomedical research and more.

This year, the program will host Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, MMHC, Director of the National Cancer Institute, for an exciting talk about her career and experience. Rathmell specializes in the research and treatment of hereditary kidney cancers. Her work elucidating the molecular underpinnings of renal cell carcinomas and developing translational therapies has yielded over 250 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. She completed her internal medicine training at the University of Chicago and the University of Pennsylvania. She then served as faculty at UNC Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt before joining the NIH as director of the National Cancer Institute. Despite her busy schedule, she continues to find time to educate and train the next generation of physician-scientists.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 1 p.m., in-person in the College of Medicine West Tower (CMWT) Room 227, and a Zoom link will be provided for those who wish to attend virtually.

There will be a reception in the Faculty Alumni Lounge, CMWT 119, immediately following the lecture.

Registration closes Wednesday, September 18.
