Gen-Sheng Feng, PhD – Deciphering the anti-oncogenic effects of pro-oncogenic molecules in liver cancer
September 19, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Gen-Sheng Feng, PhD
UC San Diego
Dr. Feng’s research program aims at understanding the dynamic interplay between signaling pathways in different cell types in health and disease. This work was initiated by discovery of an SH2-containing tyrosine phosphatase Shp2 (originally called Syp) as a postdoc in Pawson’s lab (Feng et al., Science, 1993). The current focus of the lab is on elucidating the anti-oncogenic effects of classical oncoprotiens in liver cancer, identified most recently by us and other labs. Elucidating the previously unrecognized complexity in mechanisms of liver tumorigenesis may lead to a paradigm shift in understanding the initiation and development of liver cancer that is now a most deadly malignant disease worldwide. Our goal is to provide novel diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic strategies for liver cancer patients.
