July 1, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am UTC+0

Perla Chebli, a former researcher at the UI Cancer Center, will defend her PhD thesis, “Integrating Multiple Sources of Data to Inform Cancer Interventions: a Case Study with Arab Americans,” via Zoom on Wednesday, July 1, beginning at 9 a.m..

While a graduate research assistant at the UI Cancer Center, Chebli developed an infrastructure for cancer research with Arabs/Arab Americans in Chicago, which included establishing new and strengthening existing partnerships with community- and faith-based organizations. She also conducted qualitative research with Arab cancer survivors to explore their experiences through the cancer control continuum. Chebli also served as a graduate research assistant in UIC’s School of Public Health where, among other duties, she led a team of three undergraduate and high school students in the analysis of focus groups and interviews on the financial burden of Latina breast cancer patients.
