Time is running out to apply for this funding opportunity that will award $20,000 to community partners for promoting health equity in science across two years. April 28 is the deadline to apply. Watch an informational webinar about how to apply here.
Despite advances in care, underserved and marginalized communities experience a disproportionate burden of cancer. Communities are key to our successes in science at the University of Illinois Cancer Center, including understanding what causes cancer to start and grow, so we can develop new treatments and solutions that address needs.
This funding opportunity, Hope Leaders in Lab Science Fellowships for Community Partners, actualizes the Cancer Center’s commitment by providing resources to community partners, including new skills to understand how lab science can serve diverse communities and help achieve cancer health equity.
In these fellowships, community partners will leverage resources to expand their existing programming, including hosting events that bring community members and scientists together, in collaboration with the Cancer Center’s Office of Community Engagement and Health Equity.
Fellowship applicants should be community-based organizations, faith-based agencies or public agencies with a strong history of serving underserved communities in Cook County, including leading events and programs that address health equity. Universities and academic institutions are not eligible to apply.
Two applications will be awarded and two Hope Leader organizations will be named in May 2023.
