University of Illinois Cancer Center clinician-scientist Carlos Murga-Zamalloa, MD, was awarded the 2025 Ramzi S. Cotran Young Investigator Award by the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).

The prestigious award, named after past USCAP President Ramzi S. Cotran, MD, recognizes a body of work by an investigator younger than 45 who has contributed significantly to the diagnosis and understanding of human disease and it is sponsored by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and USCAP.
Murga-Zamalloa, Assistant Professor in the University of Illinois College of Medicine Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), leads a National Cancer Institute-funded research program focused on the role of actin signaling in bridging tumor microenvironment cues with oncogenic pathways in T-cell lymphomas. He has combined efforts with fellow pathologists and oncologists to develop novel therapeutic approaches for peripheral T-cell lymphomas, resulting in clinical trials to evaluate targeted therapies.
