2025 I-CHER Center Symposium

The third annual symposium of the Illinois Cancer Health Equity Research (I-CHER) Center at the University of Illinois Cancer Center brought together 72 participants from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) community, community partnerships and those interested in cancer equity for an engaging event with breakout rooms, raffles and song.

Participants who attended the January 23 virtual event got to hear from community partners, two pilot projects and one subaward project of choice, and about resulting future collaborations. A morning session of karaoke added much joy and laughter.

The I-CHER Center’s fourth symposium will be held in person. The event is currently anticipated for the end of 2025 or early 2026. More details will be shared in the coming months.

The I-CHER Center is made possible with funding from the American Cancer Society (ACS) and support from the Cancer Center. The I-CHER Center on the UIC campus was 1 of 4 four Minority Serving Institutions that shared in more than $16 million in grants awarded by the ACS, beginning in January 2022, to establish Cancer Health Equity Research (CHER) Centers. The others were the University of Arizona, Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, and Howard University in Washington, D.C. Each institution received a four-year grant of $4.08 million.
