Thank you for supporting the University of Illinois Cancer Center’s inaugural 5K Walk/Run held at UIC’s Curtis Granderson Stadium on September 14! Through the generosity of almost 300 participants, we raised more than $17,000 to benefit the Cancer Center. Every donation helps accelerate ongoing work toward our vision to eliminate cancer health inequities and improve cancer outcomes for all.

The high-energy community event featured dozens of walkers and runners, some pushing strollers, lapping the baseball field with UIC mascot Sparky. Each lap included passing through the Cancer Center’s giant inflatable walkthrough educational colon nicknamed CECIL. A swinging music playlist and super-sized lawn games rounded out the fun.

If you couldn’t make it to the event or still want to support the Cancer Center, donations continue to be accepted here: https://givebutter.com/uofillinoiscancercenterwalk.

We would like to thank our sponsors B-Health, Jewel-Osco and PepsiCo. A special shoutout to UIC Athletics and Facilities Management for helping to make this event a success.

We invite you to watch this video to learn more about the Cancer Center.
